Glo Bug with Video

Hook:  TMC 105 #6-8
Thread: UTC Gel Spun Thread Red
Egg Material: McFlyfoam color of choice

Step 1:

Start a sparse thread base just behind the eye. Use just enough thread to ensure that the thread doesn't slip off while your tying.

Step 2:

Take your glo bug tool and pull out enough for one side of the fly, lay it perpendicular to the shank and make one figure eight wrap around it. Its imperative during the entire process to keep firm tension on the thread.

Step 3:

Bring your thread back around and finish the figure eight on the near side.

Step 4:

Bring your thread towards the eye and tie several securing wraps just in front of the yarn and whip finish.

Step 5:

Trim off the glo bug material from the glo bug tool and trim to shape if necessary. You shouldn't need to but if you're a neat freak like me you may want to rid a few stray fibers.

Step 6:

Spin the glo bug over and part the material where the thread seam is. Apply a small amount of super glue to the thread wraps and work the material back into a ball. If you are tying the right sized egg for the hook there should be plenty of hook gap left and this egg pattern will be incredibly durable. Takes 30 seconds at the most to tie once you get it down pat and they will be perfectly symmetrical.
