A Good Start to 2016

The mild winter really helped out bug situation here in the Northeast.  The rivers stayed warmer than the last two previous years, and when I sampled in February, The rocks were covered.  I started to get fish much earlier in March, and the good fishing continued the rest of the month.  Towards the middle, we saw some Blue Quills and Stones on the Croton System.  I was getting fish both sub surface and on top, dry fly fishing in March!  I got into a lot of holdover or wild fish, and they were very feisty.  I saw the first signs of Hendricksons on March 30th, they stopped with a string of cold weather, but they have been back on in full force.  They are almost on every river in the Catskills now along with some Blue Quills, Quill Gordons, Olives, and Caddis.  My first gude trip last week went very well, we picked up 3 nice holdover Browns and some stocked Rainbows.  We were only able to get one fish to rise. (saw only 2).  Things are really going to pick up here this week stay tuned! Enjoy some pics!
